I am sad and still shocked to announce the passing of New York Rapper Heavy D, a.k.a Dwight Arrington Myers. He recently performed at the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards and is in the movie “Tower Heist,” starring Eddie Murphy and Ben Stiller.
According to numerous reports: On November 8, 2011, Heavy D was rushed to Cedar's Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, after he returned to his Beverly Hills home from shopping earlier that morning. Adam Mills, a designer, who was in the building and knew Heavy D, found him leaning against a railing in distress.
Before noon, he was conscious upon paramedics arrival, stating that he couldn't breathe; However, he was later pronounced dead around 1pm.
While the cause of death is unknown, several reports have stated that Heavy D was being treated for pneumonia.Just 15 hours before his death, he tweeted "BE INSPIRED" and Gave his condolences on twitter to Legendary Boxer Joe Frazier who recently passed.
Heavy D became well known rapper back in the 90's with his group called Heavy D & the Boyz. His hits include“The Overweight Lover,” “Mr. Big Stuff,” “Is It Good to You”, “I Want Somebody”, “Now That We Found Love”, “Nuttin’ but Love,” "Living Large"and many others. Heavy D also rapped on Michael Jackson’s 1991 hit “Jam” and a remix to Janet Jackson’s 1990 single “Alright” from her Rhythm Nation album. He recently performed in October 2011, in Cardiff, Wales, with MJ's sister, Latoya Jackson, at the Michael Forever Tribute Concert.
According to New York Daily Times, Heavy D's public viewing will be Thursday, November 17, 2011; at Grace Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, NY.
Time: Noon to 7pm.
Wake: will immediate follow at 8pm.
The funeral, which is invitation only, will be on Friday, November 18, 2011 at the Grace Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, NY.
